Rabbi David Algaze
President
Rabbi David Algaze, originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, is the founder and spiritual leader of the Ḥavurat Yisrael Orthodox Synagogue located in Forest Hills, New York. He received his Semicha from Rabbi Joseph Messas, Chief Rabbi of Haifa, Israel, and from Rabbi Ezra Basry, chief of the Bet Din (rabbinical court) of Jerusalem. Rabbi Algaze founded Eli, a city in Samaria, in 1984.
In 1989 he founded The Coalition for Israel. It has been Rosh Yeshiva of the Or Torah Institute and delegate of the Soviet Union. graduate from the University of Buenos Aires, has a Master of Philosophy from the University from Columbia and an M.A. in Literature Hebrew from the Jewish Theological Seminary. He
Rabbi Algaze has been a member of the Institute of Ethics Herbert Lehman, member of the President of Columbia University and Kent Member of the Foundation Danfourth. A Sephardic Rabbi, his ancestors include the Maharit, the Rabbi Yomtov Algaze, which was Rishon Letzion, Chief Rabbi of the former Jewish community of Eretz Yisrael, and Rabbi Shlomo Algaze, the Chief Rabbi who excommunicated Shabetai Tzvi.
